Rudra Mahalaya Temple
Siddhpur, Gujarat
12th Century CE
Once one of the grandest temples of the Solanki period, the Rudra Mahalaya was built by Siddharaja Jayasimha. Though largely destroyed by Alauddin Khalji's forces in 1296-97 CE, the surviving torana arches, pillars, and sculptural fragments reveal the astonishing scale and artistry of the original structure.
