Vishvanatha Temple

Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh
11th Century CE

Built by King Dhanga around 1002 CE, this temple is a precursor to the grander Kandariya Mahadeva. It follows the panchayatana plan and is known for its fine sculptural work including apsaras, surasundaris, and mithuna couples. A notable inscription records Dhanga's intention to end his life by drowning at the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna.
